This piece works in direct reference to Gonzalez Torres' Untitled (Petit Palais), which I replicated and placed in the public sphere. The piece itself was connected to the city's electrical feed and would automatically light on and off thanks to a photocell that was placed above the lamp post. El punto de partida de la obra fue Untitled (Petit Palais) del artista cubano-americano, la cual yo saqué a la esfera pública, específicamente a la 6ta avenida y 13 calle de la zona 1 en la Ciudad de Guatemala. La pieza estaba conectada al alumbrado público de la ciudad y se encendía y apagaba automáticamente gracias a una fotocelda que se encontraba sobre el poste de luz. Thus, I made accessible the inaccessible, and presented a real informal sector solution, within a formal art fair. Both Mara Kit 18 and Mara Kit MS were created for Rompecorazones, a group show about street gangs in Guatemala, held at Proyectos Ultravioleta. Each set comes with a number of temporary tattoos, and alludes to the way in which young kids are often lured into street gangs. In addition, its playful design allows one to chose a gang over the other, and temporarily envision oneself as a part of them. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Año: 2009 Materiales: adhesivo de tatuajes temporales Mara Kit 18 y Mara Kit MS fueron creados para Rompecorazones, una muestra colectiva en Proyectos Ultravioleta, sobre las maras en Guatemala. Cada set incluye varios tatuajes temporales y alude a la forma en que los niños son reclutados a formar parte de las maras. Adicionalmente, su diseño lúdico le permite a uno escojer una mara sobre la otra, para temporalmente envisionarse como parte de la misma.
